Besides her recipes, Zubaida Apa was known for her home remedies or totkas. An inspiration to many, a household name, an icon who passed away yesterday will forever live on in the hearts of people.
As a tribute to the late icon, here are some of Zubaida Apa’s totkas:
1. For fair complexion:
Use almond oil or olive oil on your neck before sleeping three times a week. Mix 1 tbsp of yogurt with a pinch of yeast, gently massage on your neck for ten minutes. Do this twice a month (every two weeks) before taking a bath.
2. To tame frizzy hair:
Apply oil in your hair twice a week. If you have dry or brittle hair, sprinkle a little milk on them and comb it through. Make a mixture of one egg, 1 tsp of olive or coconut oil and 1-2 tbsp of yogurt and apply on hair once a month for half hour and then rinse it with shampoo.
3. Instant radiating face mask:
Mix two tablespoons of yogurt with 3 drops of white vinegar. Apply yogurt all over face. Leave on your face for 10 minutes and then wash off.
4. For oily skin:
Mix together 2 tbsp egg white, a few drops of lemon juice and olive oil, after cleaning your face thoroughly apply the mask for about 5-7 minutes. Rinse with water. Use this mask at least once a month.
5. How to lose weight:
Start the day with five small glasses of lukewarm water, followed by a big breakfast, preferably, brown bread, a boiled egg and an apple. Have fruits and vegetables at two-hour intervals as snacks. Eat lentil soup or daal for lunch. Avoid afternoon naps and walk daily with correct posture and your stomach held in.
