On Monday a flood erupted as glazier ‘Azghor’ exploded causing damages to houses and shops in the Golain region of Chitral District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Trees were also were uprooted as a result of the flooding. This was the only reported incident of GLOF since 2015.

A similar incident had struck in Chitral, killing at least three people dead, in addition to extensive damage to property and infrastructure, affecting more than a quarter of a million.

According to researchers some some glaciers in Pakistan are safe as they keep gaining ice, but they will all start to melt in times as our planet gradually heats up. Moreover a report suggested that by 2100 over a third of the ice in the region would melt even if the governments took a firm stand to limit global warming under the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
